Travolta's vintage Mercedes stolen

Thieves have stolen a 1970 Mercedes sports car, owned by John Travolta, from a parking space in a residential street in Santa Monica, according to police.

The star found his Mercedes-Benz 280-SL missing from its parking spot when he returned after a 10-minute visit to a nearby Jaguar dealership on Sunday, Santa Monica police Sgt Richard Lewis told the Los Angeles Times.

Travolta is likely to have to turn to hiscar insurance provider to help replace the classic car.

Sgt Lewis said the "Pulp Fiction" star had not left the keys in the car when the thieves drove off with it.

He did not know if the incident was caught on camera.

Sgt Lewis was also not sure if the thief or thieves just chanced upon the vintage car or if they had been following the star.
