Police have recovered a stolen Ducati Desmosedici RR worth £45,000 with the help of a TRACKER device fitted to the bike.
The thief, who stole the new bike from the driveway of a house in Alderley Edge, near Cheshire, was caught by officers in Manchester within hours, and the vehicle was returned to its owner.
Police have warned that motorbike theft is on the increase which could spell bad news for owners who may see a rise in their bike insurance cover.
TRACKER recovery systems come with a covert transmitter that is hidden in the motorcycle in places where it is difficult to be located, and start working as soon as the bike is moved without activating the ignition.
The device is capable of indicating if a bike is in the back of a van or lorry.
Kevin Howells, chairman of theMotorcycle Crime Reduction Group said: "Motorcycle theft is steadily rising with almost 26,000 machines stolen in 2009 alone."
