The same vehicles have been in the top three car sales positions for the last five years, according to new research.
The study, which was carried out by finance provider Creditplus, showed that although the top three occasionally switch positions, the vehicles remain the same.
The top three used cars during 2011 were, in descending order, the Vauxhall Astra, the BMW 3-Series and the Ford Focus.
The best-selling Astra made up 5.39% of all the cars that Creditplus financed, only 0.12% more than the BMW. The Ford Focus commanded 4.98% of sales.
Results drawn from the survey showed that British drivers are passionate about German cars, with Audi, VW and BMW models dominating the top 20 list.
Commenting on the results of the survey, Creditplus managing director Shaun Armstrong said: "It is clear to see that the 'family favourites' are still extremely popular. Many consumers don't even look past Ford and Vauxhall before making a choice about their next vehicle.
"This is hardly surprising though as these cars have proved to be highly reliable over the last 10 years."
