Drivers who have a portable TomTom satnav device can now receive daily changes via the Map Share community.
Map Share, which had previously been available to a limited number of drivers, allows people to personalise the maps on their device.
They can also send and receive map changes from the Map Share community around the world, allowing them to keep their satnavs bang up to date.
The news should please car insurance providers who have had to deal with the consequences of drivers following their satnavs blindly, even when the instructions appear to be wrong.
From now on, the 60 million TomTom devices will be able to receive the changes to road names, speed limits, and traffic directions directly and free of charge.
Corinne Vigreux, TomTom's managing director, said: "Roads change all the time. Overnight, roads can close or traffic can be diverted, having a big impact on people's journey times.
"With Map Share, drivers can update their own map themselves straightaway."
