Swiss driver lands £182,000 fine

Judges in Switzerland have fined a millionaire motorist a record breaking £182,000 for speeding.

The serial speeder's penalty is more than twice the previous record for going over the limit in Switzerland - famous for its strict attitudes towards offenders caught breaking the rules of the road.

The driver was handed the mammoth fine for driving up to 35mph faster than the 50mph limit, working out at approximately £5,200 for every mile and hour he was found to be over the limit.

The unidentified offender, whose personal fortune of £16 million is said to have been a major factor in the judge's decision to hand out the massive penalty, has the option of appealing the decision at the Swiss Supreme Court.
