There will be a swift ruling on whether charges will be made against the energy secretary over speeding allegations, the Crown Prosecution Service has revealed.
The Sunday Times publishers dropped a High Court challenge to a court order, which demands that emails linked to allegations against Liberal Democrat Chris Huhne should be presented to Essex Police.
Now the CPS has said the evidence will be considered carefully as soon as it is received and it would decide "as soon as possible."
The CPS is hoping to decide within weeks, depending on the amount of evidence it must process from the production order.
Police started investigating the case after Mr Huhne's ex-wife Vicky Price told the Sunday Times that he asked "someone", later revealed to allegedly be herself, to take on speeding points for him so he would not lose his licence.
