Stoke City footballer Jermaine Pennant has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault.
The 29-year-old winger is alleged to have attacked a woman in a nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning before being involved in a motoring collision just hours later.
Officers charged Pennant with drink-driving, driving while disqualified and having no insurance after the collision in Greater Manchester.
The Premier League player, who lives in Altrincham in Cheshire, was bailed pending further inquiries in relation to the alleged assault.
A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "At approximately 3.30am on Sunday April 29 a woman was assaulted at a nightclub on Barton Arcade, Manchester city centre.
"A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of Section 47 assault."
Police responded to reports of a collision involving Pennant's white BMW and a silver Audi at 5.20am on Sunday in Cross Street, Sale. The reported incident highlights the importance ofcar insurance for people heading out on the roads after dark.
Pennant is scheduled to appear at Trafford Magistrates' Court on May 9 to respond to the driving charges.
