Snowy prints lead to 'stolen' goods

Seasonal weather may be causing misery for travellers, and car safety may be far from the minds of motorists forced to abandon their broken-down vehicles to the elements, but in one instance the thick snow has helped police track down suspected car thieves.

Two teenage boys have been arrested after officers followed footprints back to a cache of suspected stolen goods.

South Gloucestershire Police officers were called to the Braemar Avenue area in Filton, near Bristol, after a member of the public reported seeing youths breaking into cars.

Although there was no-one in sight, two officers were led to a garden by bicycle marks and footprints on the snow-covered ground, where they found a laptop, mobile phone and satellite navigation system.

A 13-year-old boy and another male youth, aged 15, were taken into custody.
