More details of the new generation of Skoda cars have emerged with the release of dimensions for the forthcoming Rapid compact saloon.
The company, which had already issued a concept image, called the Rapid "the right car at the right time" and revealed that it will be smaller than a current Octavia but more sizeable than a Fabio.
Maximising interior space and looking similar to a 2001-era Octavia, the Rapid shaves 14cm off the length of a Volkswagen Jetta and about 7cm off the width.
Skoda hopes the Rapid, which measures up at 4.48m long and 1.7m wide, excluding mirrors, will be the ideal small family car and attract sales in an area of the market not catered for at present.
CEO Winfried Vahland said: "This is a model which sets benchmarks in the compact saloon segment.
"The Skoda Rapid is a roomy, elegant and at the same time an affordable car for the whole family, impressing with clever solutions, cutting-edge technology and high economy. In short, it is a car permitting mobility in a comfortable, reasonably priced and environmentally friendly package. The right car at the right time."
