Seat Leon named Car of the Year

The Seat Leon has scooped a double win at this year's Auto Express New Car Awards.

The family hatchback collected the prestigious Car of the Year 2013 prize and was also named Best Compact Family Car.

And guests at the Seat table in London's Grand Connaught Rooms were celebrating for a third time when the Alhambra was named Best MPV for the third consecutive year.

Auto Express editor-in-chief Steve Fowler presented the coveted Car of the Year award to new Seat chairman Jurgen Stackmann.

He said the judging panel loved the Leon's style, the way it drives, the quality and the kit.

Best of all, it comes at at a bargain price while running costs are ultra-low, too, he purred.

Thanking the jury, Mr Stackmann said the new Leon was the best vehicle in the company's history and a perfect embodiment of Seat's transformation.

He said it showed the direction the Spanish manufacturer will be taking over the next few years.

The Leon SC was launched just a few weeks ago "and we will present the estate version at the Frankfurt Motor Show," he added.
