Sculpture damaged in car crash

A car has crashed into a giant sculpture by Scottish figurative artist Andy Scott, leaving it disfigured.

The car ran into the steel artwork, installed at Muirside roundabout, Tullibody, in Clackmannanshire, just before 9.15pm on Saturday night.

Central Scotland Police said they have launched an investigation into the incident.

A spokesman added: "The male driver of the vehicle has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal."

The sculpture of a striding man, measuring nearly 4m in length, was erected in February 2008.

Brian Smith, a college lecturer who lives near the sculpture, said: "A friend contacted us last night and said there was some police activity around the sculpture.

"I walked up to have a look. I saw the sculpture lying on its side. It's a sad sight. It's in a bit of a state."

Mr Smith, 42, added: "The sculpture had mixed reactions in the community when it was put up. It's a bit like Marmite - people either hate it or like it."
