Speculation over Nissan reissuing cars sold under the abandoned Datsun brand is growing following a comment made by the company's chief executive.
Carlos Ghosn was asked by reporters at the Geneva Motor Show if there was any truth in the rumours, to which he responded: "We are not ready to announce anything for the moment."
Japanese car manufacturer Nissan launched the Datsun in 1932 with it going on sale in the United States more than 50 years ago.
Reports in Japanese business newspaper Nikkei said that Nissan could relaunch the Datsun as soon as 2014 aiming to gain some of the low-cost market share in emerging markets.
Mr Ghosn confirmed that the Infiniti brand will be pitched at the high-end of the market but was tight-lipped over when the Datsun would be used to pick up sales in the lower end. The Datsun range came out of production in 1981.
