Roger Moore car attracts record bid

A motoring enthusiast has been persuaded to part with a world record £533,000 to snap up an Aston Martin sports car that was driven by Roger Moore in a classic TV show.

Viewers saw the actor's playboy character Lord Brett Sinclair driving the 1970 DBS in locations across Europe in most of the episodes of The Persuaders! back in the 1970s.

Featuring the distinctive BS 1 number plate, the Bahama yellow car has since had the inside of its boot lid signed by Moore and Tony Curtis, who co-starred in the action adventure series, driving a red Ferrari Dino.

The six-cylinder DBS was sold during the annual auction held by Bonhams at the Aston Martin Works at Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire. The winning bid was the highest ever price paid at auction for a DBS, Bonhams said.

Filmed in England, Italy and France in 1970 and 1971, The Persuaders! saw Sinclair and Curtis's character Danny Wilde team up to solve cases that the courts could not.
