Red Bull's Adrian Newey granted OBE

Red Bull Racing's chief engineer Adrian Newey has been presented with an OBE for his achievements in Formula One.

The most successful Formula One car designer of all time has been responsible for designing some of the fastest cars in history, including models for Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill and most recently Sebastian Vettel.

Newey was recognised for his achievements during a 30-year motor racing career at a presentation delivered by the Queen at Windsor Castle.

The car design engineer has guided three teams to a total of eight constructors' championship victories, including five with Williams, one with McLaren and two recent wins with Red Bull.

Newey, a Southampton University graduate, has designed some of the fastest and most reliable cars in Formula One history. During last season's Formula One world championship his engineering skills allowed Vettel to avoid costly breakdowns and clinch podium positions in 17 of his 19 races.

Newey said: "This is a huge privilege because engineering often in this country is overlooked, which is ironic when you consider our pedigree through the industrial revolution."
