A rare Bugatti 57SC Atlantic has fetched up to $40 million (£27 million) when it went under the hammer in California to become the most expensive used car in the world.
Gooding & Company, an auction house based in Santa Monica that handled the sale, said the vintage classic was bought by a private buyer for between $30 million (£20 million) and $40 million (£27 million).
The 57SC Atlantic is one of only two models to survive from the three built by the Italian manufacturer from 1936 onwards. The other car is owned by fashion designer Ralph Lauren.
