RAC warns of continued arctic conditions on the UK's roads

As the arctic conditions continue to bite across the UK, RAC is expecting around 12,000 calls today

As the arctic conditions continue to bite across the UK, RAC is expecting around 12,000 calls today - slightly down on the last couple of days but still above the average for the time of year.  The busiest areas are in the North of the country with Yorkshire, the North-East and East Midlands the worst affected.

Flat batteries continue to be the main call-out - on Monday 29 November we fitted 1200 new batteries, which is equivalent to one every 72 seconds.

For those drivers who haven't used their car for a few days, RAC is advising they turn their engines over and leave it running for five minutes to avoid the perils of a flat battery - making sure they don't leave the car unattended while the engine is running.
