The first Astra Sports Tourer has rolled off the production line at the Vauxhall factory in Ellesmere Port.
Ellesmere Port is the only factory that is producing the manufacturer's new five-door sporting model.
The new Sports Tourer is expected to hit the roads in Europe in November. It will come to the UK in 2011.
Tony Woodley, joint leader of Unite, said: "From the dark days of 12 months ago, when the world's biggest company went into chapter 11 and bankruptcy was close by, there is no doubt that this is a good news day."
"But we now need to ensure there is enough work to support three shifts at Ellesmere Port, and a secure future too for the Luton factory."
