The search is on for this year's top ground-breaking innovation in the motor industry.
The SMMT's Award for Automotive Innovation, sponsored by The Times newspaper, is now in its fifth year. It is designed to reward British engineers and designers for the work they do to improve motoring.
Last year's prize went to Ford for its powerful and fuel efficient 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine. The technology is now in more than 100,000 vehicles on Britain's roads.
The work of designers and engineers is vital in maintaining the UK's position as a major player in the motoring world, according to the chief executive of the SMMT, Mike Hawes.
He said the award is just one of many SMMT initiatives which are designed to show the innovative work of the UK automotive industry. Mr Hawes said he is looking forward to seeing this year's entries shortly.
