Police educate on child car seats

Merseyside Police force is helping parents to avert disaster by ensuring their children's car seats are fitted properly.

Highlighting that many parents don't even realise their child's car seat is fitted incorrectly, the police force is inviting people to attend a safety event in Wirral. There, parents will be shown how to fit them properly, and can have their own child car seats checked.

The police force hopes this will prevent children from being seriously injured or killed in the event of their vehicle becoming involved in a collision.

Sergeant Craig O'Brien said: "We see a worrying number of people who don't have their child's car seat fitted properly. This could have tragic consequences should they be involved in a collision."

Ensuring your child's car seat is fitted properly is a vital part of any journey, as is having up-to-dateinsurance andbreakdown cover.

Officers from the Roads Policing Department, in partnership with Wirral Road Safety Department and the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), are holding the event at Tesco supermarket in Heswall on October 18.

The event is the second of its kind - on October 13 the police force visited Croft Retail Park in Bromborough.

The event will take place between 10am and 3pm.
