The 2014 Car of the Year title has gone to the new Peugeot 308 ahead of the Geneva Motor Show.
The car is the fourth model from Peugeot to win the award, following on from the 307 in 2002, the 405 in 1988, and the 504 in 1969.
It was launched in Europe in the final four months of last year and in the UK this January, with production and sales in China - the world's largest car market - beginning early next year.
The model has seen more than 55,000 orders recorded since its launch.
Spring will see a second body style in the 308 range in the form of the spacious 308 SW.
Journalists from 22 European countries named the 308 Car of the Year, having been whittled down from a group of 30 from North America, Korea, Europe and Japan eligible for the title.
The model is produced in Sochaux, eastern France.
