Pensioner lost for two days on M25

A pensioner spent two nights in his car after getting lost on the way to visit his daughter, sparking a police hunt when he failed to show up.

Dennis Leighton left his home in Berkshire on Monday evening and embarked on the 55-mile journey to Kent, which he had made before. However, something did not go to plan and he got lost on the M25.

The journey to Swanley in his silver Vauxhall estate should only have taken an hour and when he failed to show up his family contacted police.

The 82-year-old was eventually found by officers on Wednesday morning in south London.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "He got a little bit lost but was found safe and well."

Mr Leighton's car was spotted on Tuesday at 11.20am six miles from his destination when it was picked up by police automatic number plate recognition camera in Dartford.

Police said he might have spent a large part of the time parked in a layby or services.
