A new poll by used car search website Motors.co.uk has found that car sharing is a very likely option for a quarter of people with children under 18 during the new school term in September as they try to tackle rising motoring costs.
Of the 2,000 parents questioned, 15% said soaring costs have forced them to reduce or stop their children's extracurricular activities as they can no longer afford to drive them around.
The survey also found that 54% of respondents have significantly changed their lifestyle due to increasing motoring costs.
Phil Jones, commercial director of Motors.co.uk, said: "The news is constantly telling us that people everywhere are tightening their belts, however these figures show concrete evidence of the everyday sacrifices that motorists are making."
