Orders are now being taken for Tesla Motors' high-performance electric, zero-emission Roadster Sport.
It does 0 to 60mph in 3.7 seconds compared with the standard Roadster, which is slightly slower at 3.9 seconds. It also has a hand-wound stator and increased winding density for lower resistance and higher peak torque.
As well as Yokohama's Ultra High Performance tyres, the car has improved suspension with adjustable dampers and anti-roll bars.
Deliveries are expected to arrive in late June and prices start at £85,874.
Michael van der Sande, Tesla's senior vice president of global sales, service and marketing, said: "This car can beat nearly anything in its price class - yet it is twice as efficient as compact hybrid sedans.
"If you refuse to compromise on performance or the environment, the Roadster Sport is your only option."
In 2011 the California-based company plans to begin producing the all-electric, zero-emission Model S five-passenger sedan.
