The 79-year-old man escaped from the accident with bruises but he had to be cut from the wreckage of his car by a team of firefighters who had been sent to the scene.

The A67 near Yarm in Cleveland had to be closed in both directions for two hours.

The man's silver Kia Rio had flown across the garden of the property and into the house on the A67 at Levington Mews, Kirklevington.

The driver had to be taken to the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, because of his bruising, a spokeswoman for the Cleveland Police force confirmed.

Luckily, the house was empty at the time of the unusual crash as it is now advertised as being available to let.
