Vauxhall Opel plans to revolutionise emissions-free urban transport, especially for younger motorists, with its new electric vehicle concept, which was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show this week.
Known as the RAK e, the two-seater has real production potential, a range of 60 miles and can race to a maximum speed of 75mph, according to the manufacturer.
At 380kgs, the battery-powered car weighs around one third of a conventional small car and has been designed to be affordable to even younger drivers, Vauxhall said.
Soaring fuel costs andcar insurance premiums could make electric vehicles a highly cost-effective option.
The new electric vehicle concept is said to have been inspired by the Ampera range-extender car.
