MyKey encourages safer driving

A new in-car system will offer parents piece of mind when they hand over the keys to their children.

The MyKey system allows parents to set a top speed for the vehicle and also limit the volume of its sound system.

A signal will also be emitted when the seatbelts are not being used or when the vehicle is low on fuel, helping drivers avoid having to claim onbreakdown cover when they run out of petrol.

Ford is expected to introduce MyKey to vehicles in Europe from next year after a successful launch in the US.

Peter Patzelt, Ford's system architect for MyKey, said: "MyKey adds a new dimension to auto safety by giving drivers standard technology that encourages safer driving and limits their exposure to risk, regardless of age or experience."
