The wide variations in petrol prices across the UK must be investigated by the Government, an MP has claimed.
Laura Sandys, Conservative MP for South Thanet, wants the Energy Department to look into why prices at petrol pumps across the country can be so different.
She said: "I can't understand why I have some of the highest prices at the pump in the country - and I'm not sure my constituents can either."
An investigation by the Office of Fair Trading into domestic oil and gas prices will not consider the forecourt cost of petrol, but energy minister Charles Hendry urged Ms Sandys to contact the watchdog with any concerns.
Mr Hendry added: "If there is evidence of unfair practices or anti-competitive practices in relation to fuel prices in forecourts, I hope she would write to them."
