Motorists travelling home for Christmas are being urged to take extra care on the roads as the car could still slide out of control even at very low speeds, according to an independent tyre dealer network.
Protyre has said that the snow and icy conditions could lead to the vehicle sliding and hitting the kerb, which could cause damage to the car's tyres.
This could be particularly detrimental for people trying to get home to visit family as "kerbing" could lead to tyre failure or wheel misalignment.
Other consequences of the tyre hitting the kerb are uneven wear or the tyre may become deflated as air may escape from the tyre if the sidewall is pinched between the kerb and the wheel.
People are also being reminded to keep a safe distance from the kerb as debris could also damage the tyres and cause travel chaos.
