Hatchbacks remain as popular as ever with British motorists, research has shown.
A study from leasing website ContractHireAndLeasing.com found that 24% of vehicle searches on its website were for hatchbacks, with three fifths of them carried out by personal users.
In second place were saloons, accounting for 21% of all searches, with estate cars narrowly pushed into third with 20%. Business customers accounted for the majority of the searches for both estates and saloons.
Despite the unpredictable British weather, 16% of users searched for a convertible car.
The company said its most popular cars this year are the Ford Fiesta, Ford Focus, Vauxhall Corsa, Volkswagen Golf and Vauxhall Astra, which are all available as hatchbacks.
ContractHireAndLeasing.com spokesman Richard Lawton said: "Our love of hatchback appears to be alive and well. We believe that it is the hatchback's flexible nature that makes it so appealing both for businesses and for family use."
