A new study by Infinity Motorcycles has found that motorcycle and scooter riders in the UK are far more careful about the way they spend their money due to continuing economic uncertainty.
A study of purchases across the motorcycle accessories retailer's stores in the UK and its website found a £22 increase in the overall spend per customer last year, with people giving more importance to versatility and value for money while buying a product.
There was a 5% rise in sales of textile suits, while leather garments saw a comparable fall.
This suggests that riders prefer to use a multi purpose/multi weather option over seasonal outfits.
The study also found a rise in sales of premium brands, with customers showing more interest in buying a more long-term solution, instead of making multiple purchases of the cheaper alternatives.
Murray Bray, buying director ofInfinity Motorcycles, said: "Customers are buying higher end product over the cheaper brands because they want the performance that the cheaper brands don't offer - Gore-Tex products were up 9% over 2009. Customers are also seeing it as more of a sensible investment to buy something that lasts. "
