The poll also suggests that mother-in-laws hoping for a getaway this bank holiday may be disappointed.

It turns out just 1% of Brits would consider taking their mother-in-laws along for the ride, with even the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, beating them to the passenger seat!

A host of questionable celebrities, including the likes of Russell Brand, are more popular than the nagging mother-in-law when it comes to road trip companions.

Sounding a more serious note, the research from Bridgestone also reveals that only 44% of road trippers look to see if their tyre pressure is correct ahead of a day out.

Motorists are being urged to check their tyres before embarking on bank holiday adventures this weekend.

Underinflated tyres not only wear out faster but are also responsible for an estimated 3.9 billion litres of wasted fuel and 9.2 million tons of unnecessary CO2 emissions every year, resulting in increased costs for drivers on top of things likecar insurance .

It is therefore important to check tyres regularly, maintain correct inflation pressure and replace worn or damaged tyres before they become a problem.
