MG Midget gem up for auction

Fans of MG classic cars have the chance to snap up an unregistered 1980 Midget at a sale later this month.

The vermillion red Midget has done just 162 miles since it was bought, but the car's odometer shows 19 due to a fault that was corrected the first time it was serviced.

It has only ever had one owner and was purchased shortly before the closure of the MG factory at Abingdon. The Midget was intended to be a gift for one of his children but it was never given.

Anglia Car Auctions owner Lyn George said 11 months after it was bought new, the Midget was taken inside a horsebox to Holland Brothers in Sleaford, Lincolnshire for its first service with just 143 miles on the clock.

The dealer found the speedometer would not go above 10mph and it now reads 19, meaning it has done just 162 miles in total.

The car, part of the ACA auction in Kings Lynn on Saturday, June 14, comes with its first bill of sale, manuals and handbooks. It is expected to fetch between £7,000 and £9,000.
