Marmite spills on M1 after crash

Tonnes of yeast extract believed to be Marmite had to be cleared off the M1 after a tanker overturned.

A section of the motorway near Sheffield, South Yorkshire, was closed in both directions after the tanker and a motorcaravan collided and the tanker spilled its load on the road. The road was shut between junction 32 and 33 and rush hour delays were still expected on Tuesday morning.

The accident is a reminder that the unexpected can happen on roads and that motorists can prepare for this by making certain they get a goodcar insurance deal.

The tanker driver was taken to hospital but was not thought to be badly hurt after the crash at 10.15pm on Monday, said a South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman.

The road was expected to reopen on Tuesday at around 8am, said the Highways Agency.
