Man Utd player's drink-drive charge

A young Manchester United footballer has been charged with drink-driving.

Midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe - who made his full United debut in a Capital One Cup tie against Newcastle last month - is scheduled to appear before Bury Magistrates Court on October 25, a Greater Manchester Police spokesman confirmed.

Police said the charge relates to an incident on Saturday afternoon just before 2.15pm, when a Range Rover collided with a transit van and the van then collided with the wall of a house on Green Lane in Heywood.

Both vehicles suffered significant damage in the incident and the front passenger in the Range Rover was left with minor whiplash.

Tunnicliffe is referred to as a "powerful midfield all-rounder" on Manchester United's official website.

The online profile also refers to him as a "highly regarded" player at the club, who was awarded a professional contract when he turned 17 on December 30 2009.
