London Mayor Boris Johnson's plan for a cycle hire scheme faces a legal challenge from a Mayfair resident.
Noel Carroll wants the High Court to step in over proposals for a 30m bike "docking station" on South Audley Street, which is near his home. The planned station would be in a conservation area with several listed buildings, including private club Harry's Bar, of which Mr Carroll is a member.
The 64-year-old, who lives in nearby South Street, is worried about how the station will affect his neighbourhood. He is taking legal action against local planning authority Westminster City Council and is now seeking permission to mount a full-scale legal challenge.
Should Mr Carroll's case prove to be successful then the many hundreds of other proposed bike stations across London could also be locked in legal battles.
Transport for London (TfL) said bike hire locations were "carefully considered" with the full involvement of local councils.
