Jaguar Land Rover has announced it is to build its new Discovery Sport at its Halewood factory on Merseyside, creating 250 new jobs.
The company is investing more than £200 million in the plant and its workforce there will have increased three-fold to 4,750 in the space of just four years.
The encouraging move will strengthen the close bond JLR shares with the people of Halewood and Liverpool, according to CEO Dr Ralph Speth.
He says the Discovery Sport, inspired by the Discovery Vision Concept, is an exciting new model for the company.
It is expected to be a highly capable and practical addition to the compact SUV market when it is launched next year and will open the door to a wider range of new Discovery vehicles.
The concept version turned many heads at the New York International Motor Show in April.
