Joy of Christmas driving revealed

An early morning Christmas drive has been revealed the way motorists across the country got into the festive mood.

A Vauxhall Astra poll found eight million motorists hit the road at Christmas to soak up the atmosphere, with over two-thirds (68%) citing the drive as a way of getting into the festive spirit.

Britons have voted this Christmas morning motoring moment as their favourite drive of the year, with almost a third saying it's better than a car journey to the airport for a holiday (21%), the first drive alone after passing their test (19%) and coming home from a seasonal shopping spree (10%).

Psychologist Phillip Hodson said everyone should try some festive driving, taking the opportunity to sing as loudly as they want.

"Motoring on Christmas morning is a great way to start the day, because it gives you a bit of time to prepare for the fun ahead and helps to get you in the festive mood," he said.
