James Bond's Lotus sold at auction

James Bond's Lotus driven in the film The Spy Who Loved Me has been sold for £111,500 at auction.

The white 1976 Esprit Coupe was sold to a private American collector by Bonhams auctioneers.

The phone bidder battled against a sales room full of bidders, but was successful in snapping up the sports car, which was driven by Roger Moore's Bond in the film.

The buyer described himself as a Lotus and James Bond aficionado and said the car would be sent to Atlanta, Georgia, US.

The Lotus was a amphibious car in the film, which meant it could be driven on land or in the sea during a chase.

A Bonhams spokesman said: "We are delighted with the result and delighted that it attracted worldwide attention."
