Italian theme for motoring festival

The theme of the 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed will be Viva Veloce - the passion for speed, it has been confirmed.

Celebrating Italy's fascination with motor racing and its global influence on the sport, the major motoring event is expected to take place in July this year.

The cars, drivers and cyclists that have been instrumental in bringing success to Italian motorsport will be honoured in the festival.

While cars including Maseratis, Ferraris and Lancias will be highlighted in the two-day event, special attention will be given to the Alfa Romeo model - which is celebrating its centenary.

Thought to be scheduled around the 2010 festival's central theme, Goodwood will also celebrate 60 years of the Formula One World Championship with a gathering of cars and drivers from the six decades.

Goodwood Festival of Speed founder Lord March said: "It will be fabulous to have so many great cars and drivers here at Goodwood to celebrate our Italian-flavoured Viva Veloce theme for 2010.

"I look forward with much anticipation to seeing some of the greatest drivers, riders and machines in action."
