Car insurance was identified as the most pressing matter on drivers' minds during the fourth quarter of last year, according to motoring website honestjohn.co.uk.
Visitors to the site were asked about the major issues that mattered to them as vehicle buyers and motorists.
The second most important issue for drivers during the last three months of 2010 was smaller, cheaper cars, followed by wheels and tyres in the third place.
Winter tyres emerged as the fourth key issue for motorists due to the large amount of snow in the latter part of 2010.
Editor Daniel Harrison said: "Honestjohn.co.uk is the only motoring website that's actively tracking the issues that matter to car buyers and motorists. Because of the interaction we have with our users, we're uniquely placed to pick up on the issues that concern people the most.
"The key themes we saw across the whole of last year were borne out of wider issues. Unsurprisingly we were asked questions about the cost of motoring more than anything else."
Other key issues that mattered to car buyers and motorists during the last quarter of 2010 included snow, dealers, warranties, fuel economy and small family cars.
