Highway Agency makes driving easier

High-tech devices are making it easier for British motorists to get from A to B without encountering any traffic jams.

The Highways Agency, which manages England's motorways and strategic road network, has unveiled its latest journey planning tools.

The agency's live traffic information website provides navigation and extra information including what the overhead motorway signs are showing, live vehicle speed data and even the view from thousands of CCTV cameras.

Now motorists can log on to the website from their mobile phones to check if the road is clear. And for those with a laptop or PC at their holiday destination, they can check for updates before heading for home too.

The mobile phone version of the agency's website provides easy access to live traffic information that is presented in simple text format. It also provides Traffic Radio, the Agency's 24-hour digital radio station based at the National Traffic Control Centre.
