Motorists are being urged to gear up for winter by making sure their cars can cope with the cold weather.
Sub-zero temperatures and the usual wintry conditions such as ice, snow, wind and rain can all increase the likelihood of accidents orbreakdowns while the millions of tons of extra salt and grit poured on to the roads can also take their toll on the condition of vehicles.
But manufacturer SEAT is helping owners of its cars to stay safe by launching a £29 Winter Safety Check scheme.
The fixed-price, 28-point check covers tyre tread and pressure, fluid top-ups and a thorough look at the vehicle's brakes, steering and electrics.
Checks, which can be booked at any SEAT retailer, are undertaken by a specialist technician who will advise owners on any parts that require replacing.
Motorists putting their cars through the checks will also be given a free £18, one-litre Castrol Edge oil top-up kit.
