A traditionally high number of accidents on Fridays and poor November weather could combine to make this Friday the 13th particularly unlucky.
Work Wise UK, who are launching Commute Smart Week to raise awareness of the danger, said Friday evening rush hour was the most dangerous time on the road, with 20% more casualties happening then than at any other time of the week.
Chief executive Phil Flaxton said: "Deteriorating weather conditions combined with dark mornings and evenings can be bad news for road users and pedestrians.
"As part of our Commute Smart Week, Fatal Friday Phenomenon Day aims to reduce the need to travel this winter, ultimately cutting down on death and injury on our roads at this particularly dangerous time of the year."
