Fowl play forced the closure of a motorway yesterday as a delivery van crashed, spilling frozen chickens onto the road in the process.
The van collided with the central reservation of the M5 near Bristol, between junctions 19 and 20, at around 11.40am on Tuesday 16 October and approximately 1,000 frozen chickens in total fell onto the motorway.
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that they were called to the incident on the south-bound carriageway of the M5 and a spokesman for the Great Western Ambulance Service said that the driver was taken to hospital in the aftermath.
"The driver was taken to hospital with a head injury, which is not life threatening," a police spokeswoman added.
The driver, who was a man in his 20s, was treated for minor injuries at Weston General Hospital after being freed from the van and the M5 was closed while Highways Agency workers helped to get the chickens off the road.
