Newcastle United striker Nile Ranger is to appear in a magistrates' court next month after Northumbria Police charged him with getting behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol.
The Premier League footballer, who was arrested on suspicion of driving his black and white Range Rover after drinking alcohol in September in Newcastle city centre, was on bail awaiting a blood test result.
The trial of the 20-year-old footballer will be held on November 10 at Newcastle Magistrates' Court, a police spokeswoman said.
Police also charged another person for driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as for getting behind the wheel withoutcar insurance.
The charges follow the alleged theft of Ranger's car last month, when the footballer was speaking to the police.
