Football referees have a relatively poor driving history, a motor insurance study has found.
The Trading Floor said that 80% of refs do not have a no-claims discount on theircar insurance policy.
But when it comes to cricket umpires, the proportion is slightly better (72%).
Overall, drivers connected to sport appeared to be poor risks from an insurance point of view, with 66% not having a no-claims discount against the national average of just 45%. Racing drivers (77%), footballers (75%) and jockeys (74%) fared little better.
"People working in sport usually need great hand-eye co-ordination and have to be good at processing visual information, so you would expect them to make the best drivers but this research suggests otherwise," said The Trading Floor managing director Chris McDonald.
