Six ducklings are recovering with their mother after tumbling down a drain while crossing a busy high street.
The young ones were waddling over to a river in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, when they were "spooked" by a car, witnesses said.
They were rescued by builders Mike Weatherley and Mike Williams who were renovating a house in the area.
The pair prised off the drain cover with their tools and pulled out four dazed ducks. They realised the other two had squeezed down a pipe and were further down the road.
The duo removed a second drain cover and found them floundering in the water about 2ft down and pulled them to safety.
Mr Weatherley, 45, told the Gloucestershire Echo: "Men are used to rescuing damsels in distress, but this time it was ducks."
