Motorists are being warned against leaving presents in plain view in their cars when they are not in them, to avoid becoming victims of criminals this Christmas.
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) says thieves looking for easy opportunities will find it hard to resist Christmas presents they see left unattended in vehicles.
According to the ABI, Britons will typically spend around £350 on presents this year and with the expense comes the need to make sure they are secure.
The association says its members paid out around £1 million every day in December 2013 between them, but many claims might never have been made if people made sure their possessions were secure.
It is not just in cars where people should exercise caution, the ABI said.
Families love to leave presents under their Christmas tree, but it is a good idea to make sure they cannot be seen from outside.
