Driver hospitalised after attack

A driver confronted a gang of youths who were pelting his car with snowballs, but was taken to hospital after they punched and kicked him and made off with his vehicle.

The 35-year-old, from Northampton, was driving in the town's South Oval when a group of young males began to throw snowballs at his vehicle.

He stopped his motor and confronted the youths, but they were aggressive and abusive towards him, a spokesman from Northamptonshire Police said.

More men joined the group, and they punched him in the face. He fell to the ground and was then kicked a number of times.

The police spokesman said the victim was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries.

Some members of the group ran off once they had finished their attack, while others got into the man's vehicle and drove off.

Witnesses to the incident, which happened between 11.30pm on Saturday February 4 and 1am on Sunday February 5 are being urged to come forward and get in touch with Northamptonshire Police or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
