It took police just four minutes to snare their first drink-driver of the new year - and he was speeding at about 100mph at the time.
At 12.04am on January 1, Omer Karzan was caught doing 100mph in his Jaguar on the A38(M), which links the M6 to Birmingham city centre.
Officers in the Central Motorway Police Group pulled Iranian Mr Karzan over and he was arrested immediately.
Mr Karzan has now pleaded guilty to separate charges of drink-driving and driving without due care and attention. The 32-year-old, who lives in Burton, Staffordshire, will be sentenced for his offences next week.
The road on which he was driving has no central reservation to keep oncoming traffic separate, and its variable speed limit is usually set at 50mph.
